Poker is a strategic game. Poker strategy isn’t the same thing as what game theorists mean by strategy for a mathematical model of poker. When used in that sense strategy just means a schedule of when to apply what tactic to a situation. When to call, when to bet, etc. But the development of a poker strategy for the actual game of poker, as opposed to a mathematical model for a simplified version of poker, involves thinking in terms of how you want your opponent to respond and how to set up a situation that will get that response. It’s more of a manipulative approach and it involves constantly revising your thoughts about what kind of player the other guy is and also revising your thoughts about what kind of player the other guy thinks you are. Poker strategy is not easy. There are some free ebooks on poker strategy scattered around. Various sites use them for promotion, and you can be pretty sure they'll be superficial and not really get into nitty-gritty strategic issues. But, some aren't a complete waste of time.
Poker: A Guarenteed Income for Life by Frank R. Wallace.
I highly recommend it. The Definitive Online Poker Strategy didn't impress me but it's not a total waste of time.
Secrets of Winning Online Poker is pretty bad. The author spells even worse than I do, which I didn't think was possible. But I at least I know how to edit and/or spellcheck, even if I don't always do it well. This clown doesn't even know what edit means. Besides the problems with spelling he doesn't have a close, personal relationship with the concept of a sentence. It's about 20 pages of text, which doesn't have anything unique to offer and some of what it does offer isn't even right. Ads are interspesed in those 20 pages. Then it's followed by about 30 pages of ads. A major waste of time. If you've ever read anything at all about poker, or just talked to someone else about poker for 5 minutes once, then there's no reason I can see of to read this poker strategy book. Sit-n-go strategy for Full-Tilt poker doesn't even work as an effective ad. As a poker how-to book it's really bad. A complete waste of time. Don't bother.

I'm working on a book on no-limit hold'em. I have no idea when I'll get it finished. It's starting to look like it will be finished a couple of years after the poker playing public has lost interest in no limit hold'em. But, I am keeping a blog on no-limit hold'em where from time-to-time I'm posting things that will eventually be in the book.
