Very large Fields

It's not at all unusual to read some poker pundit talking about the growth in the number of entries in the large, televised tournaments such as the World Series of Poker and making a pronouncement that the very large fields makes it a new ballgame, even going so far as saying the very large fields create an edge for the younger players who have experience playing large fields on the internet.

Whenever you read something like that just mark that pundit down as someone to ignore. It's nonsense.

It's harder to win an event with 3,000 entries than an event with 300 entries. But it's not proportionally harder. It might even be proportionally easier since much of the growth in entries comes from players who have virtually no chance at all, who play that badly.

Straightforward, solid play will get the money no matter how many opponents are competing for the pot of gold.
