Steve Asmussen is one of the top trainers in the country and is particularly talented at training horses for a distance, a rare talent in a trainer. He also works really well with talented jockeys who don't have an ego problem. Today's jockey, Shaun Bridgmohan, seems to fit that bill (read this) I haven't actually handicapped the race today. But Private Vow (Asmussen's horse) is listed in the Morning Line at 50-1. It might well not be the best horse in this race, but at that price any Asmussen horse is an overlay.
