Gary Carson's Newsletter

Note: Except for the MathandPoker blog, I've been kind of neglecting my poker stuff on the web. That's becuase there's really not any advertising support for my poker stuff other than the MathandPoker blog. Visitors to that site actually visit the ads and I have a few active advertisors for that site. So I've been devoting more time to non-poker related stuff on the web recently. There seems to be more profit potential for me in non-poker topics right now. I'm still doing some poker stuff, and will continue, but other than the MathandPoker blog it probably won't be the bulk of my efforts.

Basic Probability

These are my pages of math, stat, and probability for gamblers. I've had a couple of false starts on this in the past and I'm adding to it again. It's intended as an adjunct to my mathandpoker blog.

Maybe, if I get really diligent (fat chance of that) it'll end up a book.

Free ebooks

A page with some links to various free e-books found on the web. Some on poker, most on other subjects. I've recently added a couple of links to books giving an introduction to probability.

Gambling Across America

I've got some stuff about gambling in 10 different states so far. I've still got a ways to go before I have complete coverage.

My books

The Complete Book of Hold'em Poker
I was hoping to get a second edition done this year. I'm still working on it. But even if I get my part finished by the end of the year, it won't be in time to get it published for the Christmas selling season. The second edition of the book will incorporate no limit hold'em, and include material on online play and more extensive material on tournaments. There are 3 ways to get the book. You can buy it in the traditional way, from any traditional bookseller. You can buy an ebook edition from me. Or you can read an ad supported web version. That link was bad in previous editions of the newsletter, it's fixed now.

Poker Culture

I use this blog mostly to comment on people and events and organizations in poker.
I recently put up a series of posts commenting on a thread on two plus two about me and my work.

No Limit Poker
A no-limit poker book
I'm still working on one. I'm still posting some of the stuff that's in the new book on my
no limit poker blog. Also I've been finding some no limit hold'em related posts on other blogs and commenting on them from time to time. I see a lot of limit poker related thinking when people are talking about no limit poker and I really think that no limit calls for a different way of thinking.

Playing No LImit Poker

In addition to the blog on no limit poker I have a seperate website, PlayingNolimitPoker.com, on no limit hold'em and no limit poker with links to various web resources on the general topic of no limit poker strategy.

Poker Dealer Jobs

Until recently this was a page on my site www.garycarson.com. It's now on a dedicated web site. It's still small, it's three pages right now, but I'm adding a little to it every day or so. I think I have a complete list of Oklahoma casinos that offer poker or table games but I don't have all the links to the web pages for job applicants. I'm working on getting those. Right now I'm just circling out from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, etc. If any of you know of any poker dealers who have blogs other than the two I have on this site please let me now.

Advertising on these sites

Google Adsense
I use a combination of the number of visitors and the number of responses to google ads to allocate my time in updating sites. Sites with visitor responses to ads get updated more often than sites without response to the ads.

I use Google Adsense on all my sites as an important revenue source. I make a very small amount of money (fractional pennies) from just showing you the ads, and make a small amount when you click on the ads (actual pennies). I encourage you to click on any ads you're interested in. But, it doesn't help me any when you just click on a bunch of ads quickly, Google will end up removing payment for those kinds of clicks (they're pretty good at detecting click cheating). So, please, don't just click on a bunch of ads thinking you're doing me a favor. But do click on them if you're actually interested.

Vets and Agent Orange
I'm officially a disabled Vietnam Vet. I was in Vietnam and I have diabetes. By law the VA presumes my diabetes was caused by Agent Orange. I don't know if it was or not, but it doesn't matter, I get VA medical benefits as if it was, as a veteran with a service connected disability. Since I also have problems with depression and bipolar disorder which has really screwed my life up, having that VA medical benefit really helps out a lot. So, I decided to blog about it -- about veterans and the Veterans Administration. I don't get a whole lot of traffic on it, but what traffic I do get seems to be profitable traffic. So I'll be keeping it up for a while.
